About 4 Months, 3 Weeks & 2 Days

During the final days of communism in Romania, two college roommates Otilia (Anamaria Marinca) and Gabita (Laura Vasiliu) are busy preparing for a night away. But rather than planning for a holiday, they are making arrangements for Gabita's illegal abortion and unwittingly, both find themselves burrowing deep down a rabbit hole of unexpected revelations. Transpiring over the course of a single day, Mungiu's film is a masterwork of modern filmmaking, by parts poignant and shocking. Nominated for 4 European Film Awards including Best Picture and one of the standout hits of the Telluride, Toronto and New York Film Festivals, 4 MONTHS, 3 WEEKS AND 2 DAYS is a modern classic that will stay with you long after you've left the theater.

Acclaim

"SURPRISING, GRIPPING AND SATISFYING FILM. A STARTINGLY GOOD DRAMA. The story is tautly, bravely acted. More important, the tale is so compelling that it seduces viewers as a fairy tale does a child. They simply must know, as the plot knot coils tighter around the characters, What Happens Next."
Richard Corliss, Time Magazine
"Brilliant."
J. Hoberman, The Village Voice
"A searing film, shot something close to real time, in long, unbroken takes that wrap around you like a vice."
Scott Foundas, LA Weekly
"BEAUTIFULLY REALISTIC, FAULTLESSLY MADE. Underlined the emergence of Romanian cinema as a world force."
Kenneth Turan, LA Times
"There was no more intellectually thrilling or compelling piece of work at this year's Cannes Film Festival."
Harlan Jacobson, USA Today
"#1 FILM OF THE YEAR! A GREAT FILM."
A.O. Scott, The New York Times
"A REMARKABLY ENGROSSING AND THOUGHTFUL PICTURE. Beautifully rendered in an artful mode of realism."
Glenn Kenny, Premiere
"MASTERFUL. MOVING AND GRIPPING THROUGHOUT. Impressive above all for the way it respects the audience."
Jonathan Rosenbaum, Chicago Reader
"A TRIUMPH OF AESTHETIC. A ferocious often brilliantly directed film. Marks the emergence of an important new talent in the Romanian writer and director Cristian Mungiu. Anamaria Maricna, sensational and impeccably controlled."
Manohla Dargis, The New York Times
"****! A MASTERWORK. AN ODYSSEY YOU WON'T SOON FORGET. Works powerfully as a drama and hasn't a polemical moment in its entirety."
Michael Phillips, The Chicago Tribune
"*****! A MASTERPIECE. First, this movie should be enjoyed. Later, marveled at. Director Cristian Mungiu creates scenes unlike any ever filmed."
Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle
"****! SLICE OF CELLULOID DYNAMITE! What you see will floor you...grips you in a vice of suspense. Anamaria Marinca gives the kind of performance awards are made for. This is great acting - you can't shake it. The same goes for the filmmaking."
Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
"****! BRILLIANT. The overwhelming critic's choice."
Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun Times
"ONE OF THE BEST FILMS OF THE YEAR! HEARTBREAKING AND STAGGERING."
Wesley Morris, The Boston Globe
