For the fourth year, indieWIRE has polled critcs and bloggers from around the country on the best of the year.
Olivier Assayas’ SUMMER HOURS tops the list, making this the second year in a row that an IFC Film has been the most celebrated among the critics surveyed. Last year, Hou Hsiao-hsien’s FLIGHT OF THE RED BALLOON came out on top.
SUMMER HOURS ranked high enough on 54 separate lists out of the 114 submitted to beat out A SERIOUS MAN, THE HURT LOCKER, INGLORIOUS BASTERDS and many others of the best reviewed films of 2009.
Also featured prominently on the list were Corneliu Poromboiu’s POLICE, ADJECTIVE at #9, Armando Iannuci’s IN THE LOOP at #10, and Kore-Eda Hirokazu’s STILL WALKING at #12.
POLICE ADJECTIVE opens tomorrow 12/23 in New York, LA & Chicago.
IN THE LOOP will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray Jan. 12th, 2010.
